Foxglove Stud Policy
We have a policy in place to not only protect our lines and stud dogs, but to protect the bitch and better the breed overall. As a stud dog owner, I feel it is our responsibility to ensure the best and most responsible breeding possible within the pairing. We have certain criteria available, which must be met, before we considering letting our dog out to stud.
Due to the current small gene pools of all of our breeds, we only allow repeat breedings or repeat genetic breedings if proven previously. If the breeding didn't exceed our expectations then, in our eyes, it isn't worthy of being rebred.
Repeat Breedings
Although it is tempting, it does nothing in terms of the breed overall by contributing dogs to the same gene pool. Breedings with other bitches are highly encouraged to help increase the gene pool. Although, if previously the dog produced a litter with the bitch and the litter exceeded expectations, and either breeder want a puppy for show, a repeat breeding may be considered. We will not repeat breed just due to demand.
Repeat Genetic Breeding
This means a breeding with a bitch who is related to a bitch we have previously bred to, for example littermates. Again, this will reduce the gene pool slightly. Extra considerations are given and the same terms above apply.
Health Issues and Concerns
We understand that within some of our breeds, such as the Labrador Retriever, there are a huge amount of health diseases. We since understand that your suggested bitch may be a carrier for a specific disease.
We do not accept any affected bitches to mate to our stud dogs. We do and will accept carrier bitches, if our stud is clear.
We expect the bitch owner to be open about the issues within their lines and within their bitch, as we are transparent about ours.
Health Testing and Screening/Schemes
Bitches must be Health Tested, dependent on their breed.
Bitches must also have the priority tests for their breed conducted, ie disease panels.
Accepted Payments
Accepted payments include a set stud fee, dependent on the stud dog, his titles, his breed and pedigree.
Other acceptable forms of payment include a Pick of Litter.
It is also preferred that you are a member of the Hunting Club of Show Standard and also the Kennel Club of Show Standard, or at least participate and title your dogs within both of the associations.
A stud contract is provided upon request, or can be viewed via our website.
